The Farmi JL 351 P skidding winches are loaded with features to ensure safe and productive operation on small tractors.
Both the clutch and the drum lock are rope controlled. The operator can stand safely to the side, away from the cable and the logs. Both models have identical winch mechanisms with the famous Farmi sensor, coiler and brake system.
The JL 351 P winch shown above, has a built in multi-purpose dozer blade. You can stack logs on the landing, open skid trails, and clear snow. The dozer blade also functions as a butt-plate.
This model has adjustable outrigger stabilizer legs. The bottom of the legs has a "toe" which can be used to bunch trees at the landing. The open design does not interfere with the drawbar on most tractors so a log trailer can be pulled without removing the winch.
The clutch control rope runs through a swivel on top of the winch. The winch can therefore be operated from any direction. This is an important feature for the operator as he can control the winch from a place where he can see the load as he is pulling it in. Good vision will enable the operator to prevent loads from hooking up behind stumps and roots and also to reduce damage on the remaining trees.
This feature also enhances operator safety and production. Without leaving the tractor seat, one can release the load, drive out of adverse conditions and winch the load in again. When winching from the tractor seat, one must have the optional protective screen installed between the winch and the operator. The clutch enables the operator to select any pull from zero to maximum pull of the winch. The clutch will slip when the load is heavier than the selected pull. This prevents damage to the cable or winch even if the load gets hooked behind stump or root.
The clutch has a 5 year parts warranty.
A new clutch can be riveted on he old sprocket so the clutch is easy and inexpensive to replace. The sturdy upper sprocket acts as a heat sink and absorbs the heat generated in the clutch when winching, so the clutch will not burn out.
The winch frame is high. The high point of pull is very beneficial as it creates down-pressure on the winch when winching. The down-pressure pushes the blade or legs into the ground which anchors the winch and tractor in place.
After the logs are winched in, one slips the cable under the lower snatchblock for skidding the load out. The lower snatch-block lowers the point of pull so one can pull out much larger loads. The thin winch frame keeps the weight close to the tractor, large net loads can therefore be skidded out. ROPS cab, and front end weight or front end loader is a must.
Four logs can be winched in and skidded out hooked to the cable. An additional six logs can be hooked up and skidded out from the notches on the winch frame.
The wire rope has a steel core and stays flexible even with use. The wire rope is fastened to the winch drum on the outside so the fastening will not cause hookups or tangle inside the drum.
The upper pulley has a shield which prevents the cable sliders from jamming into the pulley.
Clutch adjustment, brake adjustment, replacing the cable and all other service can be done without any disassembly of the winch. Repair of the winch is also very easy because the entire winch mechanism can be removed in one piece after removal of six easy-to-get-to bolts.

JL351P from the back. The winch can be hooked to category I and II tractors. The clutch is controlled from the white rope which comes out from the top of the winch frame. The winch can be operated from either side of the winch or from the tractor seat. This gives the operator a choice of running the winch from where he can see the best. If operated from the tractor seat, one must add the protective screen SV350.

Pulling out the winch cable and carrying the chains to the felled trees has typically been the heaviest part of a skidder operation. The unique Farmi sensor and brake system has made the pulling out of the cable very easy. The Farmi skidding chains are lightweight but strong as they are made of top quality materials such as boron steel. A timesaving primer pin is fastened to the chains. This primer pin makes it easier to pass the chain underneath a felled tree. The pin is first pushed underneath the tree and then the chain is pulled through from the pin.
JK 208 Boron steel skidding chain assembly, 9" long primer pin, 68" long chain with choker hook. Breaking strength 10,200 lbs. For use on Farmi JL290, JL351 models. Weight: 4.5 lbs. $29.99

The H8 choker hook fits 5/16" chain. $13.99
The H10 choker hook fits 3/8" chain. $16.99
When obstacles prevent direct winching, or when the remaining trees are to be protected from damage, a self-releasing snatchblock should be used. The Farmi snatchblock releases the cable when the keyhole slider reaches it. The snatchblock is attached to an anchor tree with a nylon strap which prevents damage to the tree. The automatic cable release works only when the pulley is turned upside down, which is when the release mechanism is facing the ground. The self-releasing snatchblock can be used with 9/16" and smaller cable.
The Farmi keyhole sliders are used with the Farmi skidding chains. The JL60T, JL601, and JL2/601 have LL6 keyhole sliders. All other models have LL2 keyhole sliders.
The LL2 size is used for cable up to 1/2" and skidding chains up to 5/16". $19.99
The LL6 size is used for cable up to 3/4" and skidding chains from 5/16" to 7/16". $49.99
A flexible steel core wire rope is the best replacement cable for the Farmi winches.
The V10 cable is a 3/8" diameter 6 x 25 IWRC type with a breaking strength of approximately 13,110 lbs., The cable is 165 feet long. It is used as a replacement in the following Farmi winch models: JL 20, JL 25, JL 30, JL 250, JL 256, JL 290, JL 300, JL 303, JL 306, JL 351, JL 400.
The V12 cables have a 1/2" diameter and are of 6 x 25 IWRC type. The breaking strength is approximately 23,000 lbs. The cable is available in 145' and 165' lengths. This cable is used in the following Farmi winch models: JL 45, JL 453, JL 456, JL 50, JL 500, JL 501.
The V 14 cable has a diameter of 9/16". It is of 6 x 25 IWRC type. The breaking strength is approximately 29,000 lbs. The cable is 165' long. It is used as a replacement in the following Farmi winch models: JL 60T, JL 600, JL 601.
A protective screen which bolts on to the winch is available for all current Farmi winches. The protective screen is necessary if the operator is sitting on the tractor when winching. The screen protects the operator from injury which could be caused by a breaking cable or skidding chain.
The protective screen does not provide roll-over protection.
